China Family Restaurant at Highland: Experience Authentic Szechuan Cuisine

I was exhausted after a grueling gym session and hadn't eaten all day when I stumbled into China Family Restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helped me pick out something with a lot of protein. I also ordered the Hot and Sour Soup, which came out very fast (thank god). I was able to snap a pic to share with you. When the entree came out, the portion was indeed large. My hunger was so that I was unable to think about taking a pic until after the entree was completely gone, but it was sufficiently spicy with a good amount of chicken, beef and shrimp. With a Topo Chico, my bill came out to $27.xx which I felt was very fair. Next time I go, I promise to shower before leaving the gym (I just wanted to leave immediately and get some food, don't judge me ) Honorable mention: the music was pretty good, I felt the vibe

Fuggetabbouttitt. Don't even think of anyplace else for some mean chongqing chicken and dry fried green beans. I mean, it scratched all the itches that developed during the week. Quick service, large portions, and some kickass chicken. Do you need anything else to be happy?

At the risk of overselling, this is our family's favorite Sichuan restaurant in ATX - and we've tried them all. We drive 30 mins each way and pass up all other restaurants to eat here. Service is amazing from the staff. From the owner to the servers and of course the top notch chef's. When I forgot my wallet one day, they didn't hesitate to extend a friendly credit until my next visit. Finally, the food. This is what we're all here for - the delicious Sichuan flavors. I recommend sticking to the chef specialty dishes such as Dry Fried Fish/Shrimp, Salt Pepper EVERYTHING (ribs, tofu, shrimp), Fish in Chili Oil, Sizzling Lamb on Iron Plate, and so much more. Explore Sichuan flavors w/out leaving ATX! And if you dine in, the portions are HUGE, which we all need more value in today's market. We bring all our closest out of town friends here. Extremely solid and well-priced Chinese food. It is my go-to for takeout as well as for big family-style dining. The portion sizes are so generous, and everything is so flavorful that I always leave very happy. I recommend the mapo tofu, the eggplant, and the 水煮鱼. Plus their green beans are like crack. Plus the interior is actually really cool. I love the Chinese opera theming throughout

Nice and clean when you walking. The staff is super friendly. Make sure y’all come hungry because this plate are big. We couldn’t finish out meal. So more food for us later. We definitely coming again.

I just love a good hole in the wall food place and that’s what China Family is. I was finally convinced to try this place out; don’t let the exterior push you away! As someone who grew up eating Chinese food this place absolutely blows me away! I haven’t found a perfect 10/10 hot and sour soup in Austin but I think this place is it (not oily and actually spicy). Portions are generous and everything served family style. I’ll be back!!

This is the absolute best Chinese food I've ever had in my life, I don't care if it's fusion or authentic, but the taste, seasoning, temperature & portion is great for the price. Also the server Eva is very attentive and has great customer service skills. Annie is nice as well. Y'all just gained a loyal customer, I'll be coming often!

One of my go to Schwan Chinese restaurants in Austin. Ed's customer service & attentiveness is over the top. Very big portions & prices are very reasonable. Definitely my top recommended spicy chinese restaurants in town. Again, great big portion delicious food with great friendly service.
